I welcome you on behalf of the staff and students of the Department of Arts Education at the University of Cape Coast. The department is one of the newly created departments in the College of Education Studies within University of Cape Coast. The mandated programme of the Arts Education Department is to train teachers who teach liberal arts in senior high schools in Ghana. The department houses the B.Ed. (Arts) programme, and it is the only programme the department runs at the undergraduate level. At the postgraduate level, however, we have M.ED/M.Phil./P.HD Arts Education. As a new department, we focus on the core mandate of teaching and research. To all our students, we in the Arts Education Department would like to wish you inspirational, productive and successful studies.
 

The College of Education Studies has as its major goal the provision of high education professionals at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels in all subject areas. Within this broad goal, the Department of Arts Education (DAE) has over the years offered Bachelor of Education (B.Ed) programmes that equip graduates with the appropriate expertise in the content, curricula and methodology of the Arts and Social Science subjects. The Department also offers a Master of Philosophy (M.Phil) and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) programme in Curriculum and Teaching that prepares graduates for curriculum development and implementation at various levels of the education system in the country.

Mission

 To become a centre of excellence for training quality teaching personnel, educational leaders, curriculum experts and specialist as well as technical and professional staff for the Ministry of Education and other sectors of the Ghanaian economy.  It seeks also to create an enabling environment for critical thinking that would motivate both staff and students to be innovative and become internationally competitive. This would be achieved through linkages and collaboration with local and international institutions of higher learning in the sub-region, Africa and beyond.
