BSc Economics With Finance

The first two years build the foundations: introductory and principles-level mathematics and statistics for economists, principles of micro- and macroeconomics, computing for social scientists, foundations of accounting, personal financial decision making, principles of finance, financial markets and institutions, elements of micro- and macroeconomics, and an introduction to econometrics, alongside the University-wide Communicative Skills, Information Literacy Skills, African Studies, the interfaculty course and Critical Thinking and Practical Reasoning.

The third and fourth years specialise. Students take economic modelling and forecasting, research methods, time series econometrics, cross-section and panel data econometrics, microeconomic and macroeconomic theory at intermediate and advanced levels, game theory, financial modelling and forecasting, investment and portfolio management, the economy of Ghana, mathematical models for economists, corporate finance, development economics, behavioural finance, financial derivatives, corporate governance and ethics, international finance and open economy macroeconomics, and dynamic stochastic general equilibrium modelling. One elective is taken in each semester of the third year and one or two in the first semester of the fourth year, drawn from empirical finance, microfinance, e-commerce economics, business economics, financial economics, real estate finance, public finance and public policy, environmental economics, monetary economics and the financial management of banks.

The research component is the Project Work, written in the second semester of the fourth year, with the research proposal prepared during the first semester.
