What sets our economics apart

The Department was built around a deliberate choice: to teach economics as a tool for the problems in front of us rather than as an exercise in abstraction.

About the Department →

  • Applied before abstract Our degrees are intentionally designed to emphasise the application and real-world relevance of economic ideas — unemployment, inflation, inequality and environmental pressure — rather than highly technical quantitative work for its own sake.

  • Built with the people who hire our graduates The curriculum was developed in consultation with industry stakeholders, government agencies and academic experts, so graduates leave with solid theory and the practical skills an employer recognises.

  • Evidence, not opinion Every programme builds capacity in statistical, mathematical and computational tools, because policy advice that cannot be defended with data is not advice.

  • Ghana’s coast as a classroom Our blue economy programmes answer the 2030 Agenda and AU Agenda 2063 directly, and draw teaching staff from Economics, Social Sciences, Law, Biological Sciences and Business.
